Exploring New Sounds

Now that our busy summer is behind us, we are turning our attention to exploring new sounds, new ideas, and things we've put on hold.

• Our long-anticipated Fenix video has finally been edited into some standout individual songs, thanks to Paul Kagawa. These we will post on the website and on YouTube over the weekend. They include performances of “The Look of Love” and “Humble Me,” an underappreciated Nora Jones tune, both sung by Jean Marie, “Wagon Wheel,” featuring Ron on lead vocal, and two of my own: “Fall into the Sun” and “Before You Hurt.” I hope you enjoy them!

• Next, we spent an evening recently playing with a new friend, Calvin Murasaki, on violin/fiddle. It was a fascinating time hearing a new sound adorning some of our familiar material. We all enjoyed ourselves enough to agree to explore the collaboration further in the near future. Stay tuned on that.

• We plan to get to our long-overdue intention to record some music “in the studio” rather than live. We have a number of original tunes, as most of you know, in addition to our many arrangements and covers of more classic, familiar songs. Now that we’ve been together nearly two years (Wow! Is that true?) we’ve developed many of these songs to the point where we would be excited to capture their evolution for all to enjoy. In order to capture the Domestic Harmony synergy as well as possible, we want to record “live” even if we are not in front of an audience. So we’ll set up our studio and start rolling “tape” sometime very soon. Again, stay tuned.

• Finally, looking ahead, we can anticipate getting back on stage in October for two gigs. The first is our return to The Corkscrew Wine Bar in Petaluma on October 16. If you haven’t been, you should check it out. A very intimate setting, right near the river in the heart of town. A tasty bar menu in addition to the select wines you’d expect in a place like this. And the crowd is local, attentive and appreciative. Perfect! We’ll also be back at The Fenix Music and Supper Club on 4th Street in San Rafael on the 25th. The Fenix is an amazing venue from all points: food, view, sound. Both clubs are linked to this post. Click and see!

Be sure to look for our new videos and like us on Facebook if you would be so kind.

See you all soon, somewhere or other.
